ISM manufacturing seen at 48.0 in August

Will the industrial contraction continue?

At 6:00 PM UAE time tomorrow, Tuesday, the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) will announce the Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) data for August 2025.

Forecasts indicate a decline in the index to 48.0 points, compared to 48.9 points in the previous reading. Since any level below 50 points indicates a contraction in industrial activity, markets will closely monitor whether the sector continues its slowdown into the new month.

  US Dollar

The data will be influential in:

  • The labor market and local demand: Continued decline may increase concerns about weak employment and production.

  • Federal policy: With the September meeting approaching, any indication of further slowdown may support arguments for lowering interest rates.

  • The dollar and global markets: Weaker-than-expected figures may put pressure on the U.S. currency and support gold and safe-haven assets.
